Lighting in educational spaces must go beyond mere compliance with technical standards; it has the power to stimulate creativity and facilitate concentration. At Rouen School, the space presented a strong architectural identity, combining contemporary finishes with exposed structural elements, such as concrete pillars and beamed ceilings. LEUK's major challenge was to design a lighting system that respected and enhanced this "raw" aesthetic, while simultaneously ensuring a homogeneous light distribution, without harsh shadows or glare, essential for the comfort of students and teachers.
To create a dynamic and visually stimulating space, the LEUK team relied on a combination of different techniques and luminaires: Geometry and Orientation: In the circulation zones and open-space lounge areas, continuous linear LED profiles were installed, recessed not only in the ceiling but also in the floor. These lines of light draw the space, creating visual paths that provide a futuristic and highly sophisticated atmosphere. As a complement, an elegant suspended circular luminaire was applied, acting as a focal point over the social area. Structural Indirect Lighting: In the rooms and corridors with exposed ceiling beams, the adopted solution was the integration of indirect lighting in the coves and between the structure. This technique projects light against the ceiling, reflecting it diffusely and softly throughout the space. The result simulates the effect of natural light entering through skylights, eliminating direct glare.
The final result is a school with a strong and avant-garde visual identity. The architectural lighting implemented by LEUK not only modernizes the space but also promotes a highly comfortable learning environment without visual fatigue. Allied to the bold design, the LED technology used guarantees high energy efficiency, reducing the educational institution's ecological footprint and optimizing long-term operational costs.
